The most interesting part about this movement is that it is fitted with a very special and highly complex mechanism composed of 636 parts. It is called fusee chain. The mechanism, connected to the mainspring barrel like a tiny bicycle chain, has two main functions. Firstly, it helps the mainspring deliver a balanced and consistent level of power release rather than an uneven one. The consistency of the power release is achieved thanks to the fact that the fusee chain is wound around a cone shaped cylinder which winds at a different rate. Secondly, the fusee chain assists to ensure the safe winding of the main spring.
