New York, July 17, 2009:

TESPIS MAGAZINE.COM is a PROGRESSIVE LATINO REVIEW ON CULTURE, THE ARTS AND CURRENT AFFAIRS.

Offering a new forum in which to be informed and engaged, TESPIS MAGAZINE IS CELEBRATING 8 MONTHS ONLINE with a new design that incorporates the latest in new and social media.  Tespis Magazine is available at: www.tespismagazine.com. And NOW At Twitter: www.twitter.com/tespis. (@tespis) and www.twitter.com/LatinoEvents (@LatinoEvents)

Few places are as well positioned as New York to play a key role in the “Progressive Latino Culture”. New York is a cradle of the Latino experience and TESPIS MAGAZINE has been a pioneer covering it since it started in 2002 as a print publication. Now on the web, with the help of the latest in social networking, TESPIS MAGAZINE.COM offers up-to-date coverage and commentary on culture, the arts and current affairs, with a focus on those issues that directly affect  Latinos. This coverage will offer highlights on politics, policies, ideas, opinions, and old and new media coverage. Tespis will also include highlights on theater, exhibitions, film, music, fashion, travel and dining.  With Twitter (@tespis) as a main tool, Tespis will keep you abreast of what is important to you and what is reshaping our globalized world.

As we embark further into the 21st century we are becoming what I call “The Progressive Latino Century”. Year after year our numbers are growing and so does our influence. The US is becoming a more cosmopolitan, diverse and rich country. Our roll as a global partner in this century will depend on our collective efforts but the commitment and contribution of the Latino community are key.

About the name Tespis:
The magazine takes its name and inspiration from Thespis (Tespis in Spanish), the 6th century BCE, "inventor of tragedy" who was born in Attica, and was the first prizewinner at the Great Dionysia in 534 BC. He was an important innovator for the theatre, since he introduced such things as the independent actor, as opposed to the choir, as well as masks, make up and costumes. Thespis walked around Athens pulling a handcart, setting up a kind of one-man plays, where he showed the bad behavior of man. The word for actor " thespian" comes from his name. His contemporary Solon resented him, with the explanation that what he showed on stage soon would be acted out in reality as well.
