The publisher describes Orphans of War as “an unembellished, gritty account of the author’s life in war-torn Lebanon.” The author and her siblings lost their parents in the religious and political unrest of a country in turmoil. Through the perils of war, the author and her siblings found the courage to endure and survive. Sometimes horrific and sometimes humorous, Powell’s recollections make a compelling read.
Bearta Powell is a U.S citizen who immigrated to the United States when she was 19 with her 16-year-old sister. Powell, who lives in Raleigh with her husband and three sons, owns a successful fitness business as a certified Zumba instructor and belly dancing teacher.
