Blacktop on the Road
The bridges over the Rio Naranja and Rio Portalon are completed and the actual paving has begun! There are 2 crews; one working from Quepos to the Sevegre River (they are widening the existing bridge there) and the other crew from that bridge to Dominical. I actually drove on black asphalt pavement the other day for more than a few kilometers, wow! However, the reports of a 2009 completion are by no means accurate, but some time 2010 or 2011 is very reasonable.
The implications of this final stretch of the Coastal Highway being paved are huge. It will really open up the Southern Pacific Zone to a lot more diverse group of tourists and investors alike. What was previously thought as ‘way off the beaten trail’ will now be more accessible than ever before by some of newest roads in the country. The road from Santa Ana, San Jose to Caldera, Puntarena will be opening January 2010 and will make the trip to Jaco only 45 mins to 1 hour! Then on to Quepos an hour or so; and after this stretch of road is completed it will be only another 45 minutes to Dominical. From the San Juan Maria airport in San Jose to Playa Dominical in under 3 hours with a stop to eat!!!
They also have completed the re-paving of the road from San Isidro to Dominical, making the ‘pothole slalom’ a thing of the past. With the International Airport to follow this region of Costa Rica is poised to emerge as one of the most desirable areas to live in the world. So many times I have heard access is the only problem to this otherwise absolute paradise, well no more excuses.

About Me
My name is Josh Kanter and I am a founding partner of a small Real Estate firm in Dominical. I graduated with a major in business and a minor in travel and tourism from the University of Florida. I also obtained my MBA from the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins Collage with dual majors in Management and International Business. Upon graduation I moved to Dominical in the Southern Pacific Zone to follow my dreams.
I have been traveling to Costa Rica since 1998 and have extensive knowledge of the Pacific Coast and especially the Southern Zone. I witnessed the Real Estate booms of both Jaco and Tamarindo and was not going to let that opportunity pass me by again. I have lived and worked in the Southern Zone for the past 4 years and have made personal investments as well as helped various clients find the perfect investment for their future.
