The poster, co authored by Ira Goldknopf, Katerina Markopoulou, Bruce Chase, Stanley Appel, and Marwan Sabbagh, is a continuation of the ongoing clinical trial validation results for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The project is a partnership with Transgenomic, Inc. as per a licensing/collaboration agreement signed in early 2009. The results are better than expected with indications of more stringent differentiation of sub classes of the diseases.
The clinical retrospective samples and clinical diagnosis was supplied by the various authors. The poster presents data for 115 AD, 29 PD, 136 ALS, 24 AD/PD like. The biomarkers were discovered and validated using 2D gel electrophoresis, and LC/MS technology. 59 protein biomarkers were identified as significant with concentration differences in the disease vs. normal controls. These results indicate that concentration differences of fully characterized blood protein biomarkers can provide useful tools for early differential diagnosis of neurological disease.
