The midnight glow of the TV burns in the summer of 2009 and the world learns new details around the death of Michael Jackson. The scrutiny, the fever and adulation, and misunderstanding - and finally the sorrow reminds D.L. Shiloh of what happens in his novel "Pookoo". Brewza.com praised the quick read as "a brilliantly written satirical look at our society's celebrity obsession."
"It's been interesting watching the headlines this summer, reading the blogs and tweets," Shiloh said. "There's been two camps. I'd been interested in the whole 24-hour news cycle up through the 90's. As a former journalist I had a few things to say. It can be exciting and tragic."
"Michael Jackson's mentioned (for a reason) and so it's a bit eerie," Shiloh added. "But it's tied in to the whole celebrity thing. Death will make him a huge star. The book had a lot to say about that element to news business."
Shiloh's take on the recent Pepsi video accident was, "After 25 years, the MTV Generation saw its Zapruder moment - the MJ Pepsi accident video says so much."
When asked if there will be a sequel to "Pookoo", Shiloh had this to say: "I have two books, if the interest is there. But all the new things in society would make it in there. We'll see."
