Liberated Muse Productions, the production group who produces the annual Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest, announced today that they have secured HBO's Def Poetry Jam poet Bassey Ikpi as one of three people scheduled to host the all-day outdoors music event which will take place on Saturday, July 25, starting at 11am.
Ikpi, a Nigerian born spoken-word artist has appeared on HBO's Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry five times. She has opened up for Grammy nominated artists India Arie, Les Nubians and Luther Vandross. As a member of the all woman poetry collective, Diva Diction, Ikpi appeared on the NAACP Image Awards as part of a tribute to Venus and Serena Williams.
In the Summer of 2003, Ikpi was a part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. She has graced the pages of magazines such as Nylon, Marie Claire, Glamour and Bust.
Ikpi will host the second annual Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest which will feature musical performances by Bomani Armah, Substantial, Teisha Marie, noon:30, Labtekwon, the 5th L and others. The music festival is free to the public and will host a bevy of activities for the whole family. A vendor market and music marketplace will be on site.
The Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest promotes independent music and creates a venue for artists, business owners, nonprofits and their audiences to link.
