Dylan Appeal Spans The Continents

Swansea's Dylan Thomas Centre is going global.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 16, 2009 -
Swansea's Dylan Thomas Centre is going global.

In the space of just a few days it hosted high-profile visits from three continents, resulting in new-found influence and international publicity.

Sean Keir, Swansea Council's Museums and Arts Development Manager, said: "International presence like this at the Dylan Thomas Centre shows how the venue has grown in stature through the years.

"We often have visitors from around the globe wishing to learn more about Dylan's life. Recently, however, the centre has received a lot more attention."

The first high-profile visit to the centre, in Somerset Place, came when nine American academics with prestigious Fulbright Scholarships visited. Mr Keir presented a lecture on Dylan Thomas and gave the visitors a guided tour of the centre's Dylan exhibition.

Three days later, The Norwegian Broadcasting Company's Leif Ekle arrived to interview Dylan Thomas Project Officer Jo Furber for a half-hour programme he is making on the great Swansea-born poet. Leif is a critic, commentator and literary journalist.

The same day saw a journalist from national newspaper The Australian tour the centre with arts officer Nick McDonald.

To cap off a busy day, teachers of English from across Europe, including Poland, Germany and Spain, visited for a three-hour Dylan workshop led by Jo Furber.
