It aimed at encouraging young European journalists aged 17-35 to reflect and share their views on the European Union's enlargement policy and to showcase their talent as journalists.
The Maltese jury, which comprised Ms. Velislava Hillman (Editor of Phase), Dr. Natalino Fenech (Editor and Head of News of Public Broadcasting Services), Mr. Alex Attard (Editor of In-Nazzjon) and Dr. Angelo Chetcuti (on behalf of the European Commission Representation in Malta), declared Mr. Kurt Sansone as the national winner. In his article, “The EU bogeyman that never came...almost”
The article was selected on the basis of its relevance, the effort which went into researching and preparing the article, the innovative approach in treating the subject, the journalistic style and quality of writing, and the ability in catching the reader’s attention.
The national winners will be travelling to Berlin between August 29th and September 2nd 2009 where they will meet representatives from the world of politics, the media, academics and civil society to discuss various issues linked to the enlargement of the European Union. In addition, they will participate in a closing conference which will also be attended by the media and political representatives from various countries.
