Combining the promise of artistic flexibility, graphical fidelity and supreme interactivity, SketchWorlds has entered public beta. With SketchWorlds, both seasoned 3d artists and beginners are able to create interactive virtual worlds for various purposes, where their clients can join them, communicate and collaborate in real-time 3d. 3d models from a range of platforms can be used, most notably Google SketchUp and Autodesk 3ds max.
SketchWorlds finds uses in many industries. For example in architecture, allowing 3d models to be viewed, modified and shared by participants in a construction project. Next to that, it enables municipalities to engage citizens in urban restructuring, offering them a 3d playground in which communities can express and communicate their creative ideas. It also finds application within R&D and Prototyping, allowing a product development team to effectively show three dimensional concepts to a factory floor manager, without having to travel one mile.
However, the 3d Worlds can also be public, attracting global audiences. Companies and individuals alike can offer great interactive experiences. For example, a resort could use an interactive 3d replica to allow guests to book rooms and show them which are taken in a given timeframe, or to let guests mingle online before they actually arrive. Also games, applications and simulations can be built using SketchWorlds, which allows developers to use well-known scripting languages like Python or the Linden Scripting Language (LSL), the same language used in the popular virtual world Second Life.
With today's public beta release, SketchWorlds has opened a demo world which is free to explore, use and create content in. Dedicated worlds will also be made available, starting today. More information, including demonstration videos and a way to sign up for and review our virtual world, is available at http://www.sketchworlds.com/
