Summary findings show Kenwood mobile electronic products achieving the #1, #2 or #3 ranking based on revenue for the categories of in-dash CD, amplifier, coaxial speaker, multimedia, and integrated navigation, according to The NPD Group’s retail tracking service for May 2009.
Keith Lehmann, Senior Vice President of Kenwood’s Consumer Electronics sector said “Kenwood has increased its marketshare in these major categories every month since January 2009, and the May report indicates Kenwood’s multi-category strengths and particularly our dominance in the dash, with #1 positioning among all in-dash CD and integrated navigation brands. Kenwood is being put into more customer cars than ever, and we’re very pleased at the support we have received from our Kenwood dealers all year long.”
Revenue from in-dash CD player sales continue to drive the highest amount of dollars for the car audio aftermarket, excluding portable navigation devices in May according to NPD. NPD data also shows that Kenwood CD player models occupied three of the industry’s top five best-selling models in May, 2009.
“Along with our in-dash CD performance, we are also very pleased at our #1 share of the in-dash navigation market,” said Lehmann. “This fast-growing category is a true driver of consumer traffic, and the Kenwood DNX models are measurably the choice of most consumers. The alliance Kenwood struck with Garmin has clearly delivered extremely positive results for our dealers and for Kenwood.”
