July 14, 2009 - PRLog -- AUSTIN, TX –  Austin food lovers rejoice.  After 150 years of farming and ranching in Central Texas, Steele Farms has now added home delivery to their vegetable blueprint.  A small produce farm located in Seguin, Texas, Steele Farms uses sustainable growing methods and superior knowledge of the Central Texas region to cultivate some serious produce.

“Great farmers understand balance,” explained Michael Steele, the farm’s land Steward.  “You have to be acutely aware of variables such as moisture content, temperature, pH, time of the year, and sun exposure.  A change in one variable often requires a corresponding adjustment to another.  Farming is really a blend of art and science.”

The Steele’s are no rookies to farming in Central Texas.  The family began learning the trade 150 years ago when they settled in Bandera.  Along the way, they worked the hill country lands outside Blanco before finally settling in Seguin.  It is here they saw an opportunity to help people return to the basics.

“When our great grandparents were farming, they sold what they grew to their neighbors.  Eating local is not a new concept.  It’s just that we have become so accustomed to eating produce that travels over 1000 miles, people forget they can get the same produce from a local grower.”

After offering their produce for sale at the Austin Farmers’ Market for the past year, the Steele’s kept hearing the same request. Do you deliver?

“Produce delivery is not new to Austin,” said Trey Steele, Vice President of Consumer Experience.  “We looked at the key players and realized that while they offered delivery, they didn’t grow what they sold.  And while a handful of farms offered delivery, customers weren’t always able to plan meals around the delivery because often they wouldn’t know what produce they were receiving until a day or so before it arrived.”

With that in mind, the brothers created FieldFresh, the farm’s home delivery service.  FieldFresh is a hybrid of existing produce subscription programs.  It provides consumers the convenience of home delivery while maintaining the highest quality growing standards.

“We follow all of our produce from seed to table,” Michael continued.  “When someone joins FieldFresh, they can be confident that we have nurtured the seed, the land, and the overall customer experience.”

And when it comes to customer experience, FieldFresh is best in class.  Members know well in advance what will be in their weekly share.  And they have the option to customize their share, adding more of what they love and taking out vegetables they don’t like.

“We built the program around the end user.  Not only is the program easy to use, we also allow members to join for a month, a season, or a year.  All for about $30 a week.  It’s a great deal and a chance to fuel your body with quality nutrients.”

FieldFresh is currently delivering to Central and Southwest Austin.  The farm is planning to add North and East Austin.  More information is available at http://www.FreshTexasProduce.com.
