New Zealand-designed website showcases Microsoft Office 2010

New Zealand software company Intergen has played a key part in the launch of Microsoft Office 2010, showcasing new Office 2010 features in a high profile website.

PRLog - Jul. 14, 2009 - WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- Office 2010, one of the most significant product releases of the year, was launched at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference on 13 July in New Orleans, United States.

New Zealand company Intergen designed one of the worldwide Office 2010 websites to showcase the innovative features of the software through demo videos. The site, called Backstage with Office (http://www.office2010themovie.com), will host interviews with key developers and programme managers as well as bringing together people from the Office community worldwide.

The videos on the site run in 720p High Definition using Windows Media Services Smooth Streaming. This means the website will be able to deliver a great experience to users around the world no matter what their bandwidth – the video server will send a stream that is suited to the user’s capacity level.

Recognising the prevalence of mobile-based browsers, Intergen has also designed a specific experience for people with iPhones, Microsoft smartphones and other mobiles devices to view the website.

Chris Auld, Intergen’s Director of Strategy and Innovation, said that Intergen was thrilled to be involved in Office 2010.

“It’s an exciting time for Intergen and being so involved in the launch of Office 2010 is fantastic. Office 2010 has some really innovative features and it’s great that a Kiwi company is so involved in one of the year’s biggest software developments.”

Intergen designed the Office 2010 website based on Microsoft Silverlight technology.

“We’ve been really excited about Silverlight and its possibilities for a while now. We’re realising its full potential in the Microsoft 2010 website because Silverlight is ideal for running video in high definition.”

Mr Auld said the Office 2010 website built on other Silverlight work Intergen has carried out for Microsoft.

“We’ve developed the world-first TextGlow (www.textglow.net) which allows users to view documents on the web without having to download and open them in another application, as well as the application ButtercupReader (www.buttercupreader.net) which reads text to visually-impaired and blind people.

“We’re definitely one of the leading Silverlight developers. One of the great things about software development is that it doesn’t matter if you’re based in Wellington, Hong Kong or Sao Paolo.

“It’s a credit to our New Zealand team that Microsoft chooses us for these projects.”
