Moodle fans will already be aware of Packt’s range of books on their favourite e-learning software. Three years after the publication of William Rice’s book on Moodle 1.6, Packt is looking to increase their ever-expanding Moodle catalogue by developing a range of subject-specific Moodle books for all major curriculum areas.
Packt’s books are recognized as the best way to learn Moodle. They show teachers how to convert their courses to Moodle, to create course materials for 7-14 year olds and to add multimedia to their Moodle lessons, among other things. Packt’s Moodle specialist, Sarah Cullington, explains how ‘Moodle is being used in almost every sphere of modern education and we’d like to provide a range of books that reflect Moodle’s broad reach, and help to improve teachers’ effectiveness.'
Packt hopes to make Moodle accessible to everyone and, to make sure that all needs are catered for, Packt are inviting teachers, students, and Moodle fans alike to send in their title suggestions. Sarah continues ‘Maybe you are a history teacher who wants to make interactive lessons to bring the past back to life. Do you teach further education and want to know how to make higher learning fun? Maybe you work with SEN children who would benefit from learning through Moodle and you need to know how to teach them’.
As well as ideas, Packt are also looking for authors for their new Moodle books. On their search for authors, Sarah explains that ‘Even if you have no writing experience, all we require is that you have a passion for the subject and that you want to share it.’ The perfect author may be someone who has used Moodle for a particular teaching purpose and would like to write about that experience to help others, or even someone with a more in-depth technical knowledge of Moodle. Teachers will, of course, make perfect authors too as their first-hand experience with Moodle combined with a natural ability to explain things patiently will make for a great book.
For each Moodle book that Packt sells, they pay a royalty to the Moodle project through their Open Source royalty scheme, so if someone writes or even suggests a Moodle book, they will inadvertently benefit the Moodle community too!
If you’re interested in writing Moodle books, we want to hear from you! Please approach Packt at author@packtpub.com with the subject you want to cover, or some information on your areas of expertise.
