The Coolbox Hire Company - Back in the hot seat!

Company reveals food poisoning drama - "The effects can be devastating".

July 12, 2009 - PRLog -- So what have you been up to since last year?

When we spoke last year we had only been trading 6 months. So after the initial summer rush things quietened down considerably and we returned to our day jobs.

Day jobs?

Yes, although word is spreading rapidly, the hire of extra large coolboxes is still a relatively little known service. So to keep a roof over our heads we have full time professions.

Which are?

London Cabby and Cake Decorations Designer (www.salonglace.co.uk).

London Cabby, must be quite useful for coolbox deliveries?

Yes, it definitely helps.

We are now in the peak summer months, things must have picked up a bit?

Yes, in the last 6-8 weeks we've been quite busy delivering all over the place for a variety of events.

Tell us about that.

We've had a few hiring's for customers involved with large organised events such as 'The Marylebone Fair', 'The St Helier Festival' and 'The Big Picnic' in Watford. Smaller celebrations have included birthdays, school fetes, holy communions and a visit to Ascot.

BBQ'S?

Sometimes, but our customers are extremely innovative and use our boxes for a variety of things. The Watford customer was selling frappuccinos and granitas, which remained chilled inside the coolbox for the entire day - they sold out. Another customer in Enfield took delivery of an entire box full of ice for her wedding reception held in a converted barn. When we returned to pick up the box four days later there was still frozen ice cubes in the bottom.

That sounds extremely efficient, how is that possible, are they electric coolboxes?

No they are passive (non electric). We supply frozen icepacks with each box. The boxes are manufactured by Igloo an American company; their patented 'Ultratherm Insulation' is the magic ingredient. These extra large coolboxes were originally produced for fisherman perhaps battling more extreme weather conditions.

Not your average British summer then?

I don't know, we've had some very hot days. Many of our customers think coolbox - Drinks! We are keen to promote our boxes potential for food use. Keeping food cool should be the number one priority. Although we are much more aware of the risks of food poisoning these days, proper handling and storage of perishable foods is vital. The effects of not taking these simple precautions can be devastating.

You sound pretty passionate about this subject.

I am. Many years ago we attended a friend's wedding in Golders Green, it was one of the hottest days of the year. The buffet looked stunning, it was beautifully presented, but less than 24 hours later the majority of 150 or so guests were violently ill with food poisoning. Many were hospitalised including a man who had recently undergone major heart surgery. The wedding made all the national newspapers for all the wrong reasons.

That sounds horrific!

Like I said, devastating.

Sounds like a good reason to hire a coolbox, how do we get one?

By telephoning 020 3232-0055 to check availability in the first instance.
