PM Moon Publishers, LLC Announces Book Award Nominations for Rajah and the Big Blue Ball

July 20, 2009 - PRLog -- Rajah and the Big Blue Ball has been nominated for the American Library Association's, Association for Library Services to Children's, Notable Children's Books List, AND the Moonbeam Children's Book Award all in one ten day period.

"It is such a thrill to know that others feel that the book has merit, " said Dr. Penick Phillips-Cermak.  "It has received absolutely wonderful reviews."

According to the ALA website, (http://www.ala.org)  "The ALA Notable Children's Books List, is compiled by the ALSC Book Evaluation Committee to include the following criteria:

literary quality;
originality of text and illustration;
clarity and style of language;
excellence of illustration;
excellence of design and format;
subject matter of interest and value to children;
the likelihood of acceptance by children. "

She has also been nominated for the Moonbeam Children's Book Award for picture books for 4-8 year olds.  The Moonbeam Children's Book Award (http://www.moonbeamawards.com/) is sponsored by the Jenkins Group and Independent Publisher Online. "The Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards are designed to bring increased recognition to exemplary children’s books and their creators, and to support childhood literacy and life-long reading," according to their website.

Dr. Mosetta confided. "I love the ideal of being nominated.  There are only two things that would be better.  One,  if I win and, two, if someone decides to make the book into a movie or children's TV series.  I have been dreaming of that since I was ten years old."  It was just phenomenal to hear of two nominations in one week."  

Rajah and the Big Blue Ball is a children's picture book for kids, pre-kindergarten through second grade.
"It was actually honed on one of my second grade classes,"  she said.
"I loved writing this series, and I enjoy reading to children whenever I can.  It seems so hard to get parents to buy books for their children.  Obviously, I love and appreciate books, and because of my love for books, my children love books, too.  I believe that the love of reading contributes to rearing successful children."  
Dr. Mosetta is the mother of two children, one an accountant, and the other an attorney.  

"Rajah and the Big Blue Ball is a little long for a picture book.  Most picture books are about 32 pages long.  But the story was so wonderful that we didn't want to cut it anymore," said Mara C. Forsythe, Managing Editor.  "As it was, Dr. Mosetta cut about 250 words in her final edit."

Rajah and the Big Blue Ball is the first in a series of six books under contract to PM Moon Publishers, LLC, featuring Dr. Penick Phillips-Cermak's real dog and cat.
" I love animals so much, she said. "RajahLeBeau and Chynna were rescued.  I wish that I could rescue all of the ones I see at the Cleveland APL, and tell their story."
