Stone+Wood Outlet has both 1x6 and 5/4x6 Cumaru hardwood decking now in stock at their stores located in Portland, Oregon. The 1x6 is being offered from $2.49/LF (lineal foot) and the 5/4x6 from $3.09/LF. To celebrate the new arrival, Stone+Wood Outlet has also dropped the price of their exotic Angelim Pedra 5/4x6 decking to $1.99/LF.
Cumaru, an exotic hardwood species imported from South America, is native to Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, and the Guianas. Cumaru hardwood is known for its high density, hardness, and its class A fire rating.
Visually, Cumaru hardwood decking is renowned for its striking grain characteristics and its consistent tan-brown color. Stone+Wood Outlet is offering Cumaru decking exclusively in the highest grade available, First Export Clear. This quality standard provides an essentially defect free piece, freshly milled and kiln dried (KD) to 10%-12% moisture content (MC).
Mechanically, Cumaru hardwood is one of the strongest natural wood decking materials on the planet. With a density of 1,090 kg/m3 and a Janka hardness rating of 3,200 lbs, Cumaru is similar in strength to Ipe hardwood, also known as Ironwood or Brazilian Walnut, as well as being naturally resistant to rot, decay and insects. As a naturally durable wood product, Cumaru decking is particularly resistant to weather and natural conditions in western Oregon and Washington or other moist environments.
When the threat is not water but fire, a Cumaru deck's class A fire rating makes it far less flammable than the house or building to which its attached. This is the same fire rating given to both concrete and steel building materials.
