TOKYO, JAPAN:
The dictionary will be initially available to users in Spanish, Japanese, English, and Portuguese. Bocabo (http://www.yanasa.co.jp ) will be accessible via most mobile phones and web browsers . With a sharp and simple interface, the web-based dictionary is an ideal tool for both language learners and the greater business community. Users will be able to easily access existing translations as well as to request new words and corrections through Bocabo`s easy feedback system.
A “living” reference for translators, the dictionary will be community-driven and maintained by volunteers who will check the accuracy of the Bocabo database. As the project grows, contributors can help to record the modisms, idioms, names, and words that evolve with everyday language.
Discussing the project with contributors, Mr. Miyashiro stated that “Because there are large foreign communities in Japan that need a dictionary like Bocabo, we are making it freely and easily accessible. Bocabo will help our communities to access translations everywhere they need them; and for this reason, the dictionary contents and style of our product will grow to match the needs of our users.”
