How many of you bought your iPhone and found out that there is no insurance to protect your investment? I too was surprised that AT&T or Apple did not provide replacements insurance for my beautiful new iPhone. Not to fear there is a solution and it’s cheaper than you think.
As some of you know your homeowners insurance “most” will cover your portable media players because they are considered personal property, but your homeowners insurance deductable still applies and for many of us it could be $500-$1500 for your deductable.
Okay “so what is the benefit if it’s cheaper to purchase a new iPod or iPhone?”
Good Question? Some insurance companies have special endorsements to cover your electronic equipment. The deductible could be as low as $50. That makes a whole lot more sense.
“What about my music, is that covered?”
Some insurance companies consider your downloaded songs to be personal property, and their loss would be covered on a named-peril basis under your homeowners and mobile homeowners policies.
Coverage does depend on how you acquired the songs. So if you downloaded songs from iTunes and proved that you legally purchased the content, it would be covered.
Downloaded songs illegally copied from any source would not be covered. To get a more in-depth description it is recommended that you ask your insurance agent.
