Student Athletes Take Their Fitness Training To The Next Level- Youth Training A Growing Trend

"Local Student Athletes Prepare For The Upcoming School Year With Personal Training At Excel Sport and Fitness”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Jul 08, 2009 – Waltham, MA -- Excel Sport ant Fitness, a Waltham Training Facility, is upping the ante with summer training programs for high school students in the Metro West area. While many students use their summer vacations to unwind from the past year others are using it to prepare for the 2009-2010 sports seasons. Athletes from several local high schools, including St. Sebastian’s, Waltham, Lincoln  and Weston, have already begun their training. Summer and preseason strength and conditioning programs are growing in popularity with serious athletes and the progress is not going unnoticed.

Athletes go in and get their initial evaluation which then allows the Trainers at Excel to decide the program that is right for them. Many athletes go for general strength and conditioning but, after their personal trainers pinpoint their strengths and weaknesses, get a program that will maximize their training effort. Summer programs generally are 8 to 12 weeks depending on the athletes needs, but many choose to stay full time so that they have that extra advantage over the competition

Many of the students like to train with team members using the semi-private training option that Excel offers. This option is for groups from 2-4 athletes in similar training situations and is used as a more affordable option. “We want all athletes to have a chance to train,” Says Ryan Onopa. Proper training doesn’t only help the kids succeed in their sports; it keeps them safe by reducing injuries too.”  Excel tries to limit the number of trainees to trainer to a 4:1 ratio to truly maximize the fitness experience. The most dedicated of the athletes even go as far as using one-on-one personal training when they really want to leave the competition in the dust.

“Our program helps prevent young athletes from wasting time in the gym with ineffective training protocols and also reduces the likelihood of injuries both in the gym and in competition,” Says Dave Coffin Performance Specialist. “Excel offers an environment where kids can build greater feelings of self-efficacy that can carry over to life as well as sport.”

For these student athletes the lazy days of summer are over. They realize that in today’s culture athletics is much more competitive than in the past. The proper preparation, both mental and physical, is needed even to compete at the high school level and these students are well on their way.
