July 8, 2009 - PRLog -- MILWAUKEE – The Society for Clinical Data Management’s standards for clinical data management are already widely adopted in North America. Next, they’re going international.

Through a partnership with the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, an organization of 69 research-oriented pharmaceutical companies, SCDM’s Good Clinical Data Management Practices will be translated to Japanese.

“This effort is a demonstration of SCDM’s continued commitment to its mission to advance the discipline of clinical data management, and our ongoing commitment to becoming a society that represents the industry on a global level,” said Charlene Dark, CCDM, GCDMP Taskforce leader. “We are thrilled to have this opportunity to work collaboratively with JPMA to promote best practices in clinical data management worldwide.”

Good Clinical Data Management Practices is an award-winning resource of best practices. It is updated frequently to establish industry guidelines as technology and processes evolve. The GCDMP contains 23 chapters on topics including data quality, data base validation, metrics and electronic data capture. It serves as a primary resource for the Certified Clinical Data Manager (CCDM®) exam.

The translation furthers SCDM’s efforts to establish worldwide standards for clinical data management.

“It will be an immeasurable benefit that all people in the Japanese clinical trial community can read the GCDMP in our language,” said Osamu Komiyama, vice chair of the JPMA’s Biostatistics & Data Management Subcommittee.
