July 8, 2009 - PRLog -- Andres Goyanes, 2008-2009 president of the American Marketing Association of Central Florida (AMA-CFL) welcomes Karen Kovalsky as new chapter president for 2009-2010. Ms. Kovalsky became president on July 1st, 2009 and she will lead the industry organization and its volunteer board of directors over the next 12 months.

The 2008-2009 fiscal year witnessed much business hardship in Central Florida, including budget cuts and job losses in companies across the region.  Fallout from the economic crunch, such as the widespread layoffs, prompted the AMA-CFL to react quickly in creating new professional development programs to help members upgrade their marketing skills with the latest philosophies and knowledge, including hot topics such as market segmentation and Social Media strategies.

“It was not an easy presidency since the economic slowdown was felt by our membership, but thanks to my board of directors the chapter did its best in creating event programming based on professional development opportunities to deal with the tough economy,” says Andres Goyanes, outgoing AMA-CFL president. “I can look back now and say that despite the hardship, it was a good year to be president.”

During his presidency, Andres Goyanes led the integration of Social Media initiatives as an integral part of the chapter’s marketing strategy, including the creation of a new AMA-CFL website based on the Ning.com social network platform. Goyanes’ expertise as an online marketing strategist served the AMA-CFL well in helping the organization reach its full marketing potential.

“Andres came in at just the right time to help us catch up with the social networking world. Because of his talent and knowledge of the industry, our chapter is where we needed to be,” says Karen Kovalsky, incoming president. “Without his leadership to get us on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, I don't think we would have had the success we're starting to see.”

Every year the AMA-CFL elects a new president to lead this industry association, which represents marketing professionals in the Greater Orlando area. AMA-CFL volunteer board positions are based on a service commitment of one year, attracting some of the top marketing minds in the area who look at the organization as an exceptional opportunity to develop their leadership skills as community leaders.

The AMA-CFL represents Central Florida’s marketing professionals and is committed to creating event programming to help marketers and the small business community find solutions to the challenges of the current economy as a way to preserve jobs, increase results and find new opportunities in this field. AMA-CFL has a membership of more than 200 business professionals in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Brevard and Volusia counties.
