FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 06, 2009 -
Youth from Real Options for City Kids (ROCK) are scheduled to compete in an iron chef-style cooking competition on July 29, 2009.  The event will be held in San Francisco and guest judges include James Beard Award Winner and Metropolitan Club Executive Chef Mehrdad Dabir and from Foodie Adventures and the Food Network, Chris Milano.

The competition, an annual event capping off ROCK’s summer program, will pit two groups of 15 middle school participants against one another as they attempt to impress the judges with an array of dishes.  Throughout the summer leading up to the event, students are provided with basic cooking techniques and knowledge necessary to create a variety of food masterpieces.  Dishes will be judged based on presentation, creativity and taste and a winning team will be crowned at the end of the day.

“Our competition is a great way for our participants to show off their new cooking skills to industry professionals,” says Erica Hernandez, ROCK Program Coordinator.  “Plus, it promotes team unity and builds confidence with our youth.”

The competition will be held at the ROCK office in San Francisco on July 29th, 2009 at 2pm.
