July 6, 2009 - PRLog -- "Enchanted Summers Eve" presented by Zuma's Rescue Ranch

Featuring Michael Blake - Author of Academy Award Winning "Dances with Wolves"
Join us for an enchanted evening of music, wine, catered delights, art, and horse drawn carriage rides all benefiting Zuma's Rescue Ranch.
Come out in support of horses and children.

Our children in foster care are falling through the cracks in life, we currently allow 80% of Colorado's 6000 foster children to end up homeless or in prison within two years of leaving the  foster care system.  This we believe is largely due to the failing therapy currently available. At present time we do not provide therapy to the families involved in the foster care system, we only treat the children.. We place children in strangers homes and enroll them into "talk therapy" with a ultimate goal of re-uniting them with their families. An 80% failure rate says the system is broken and in need of community support. If we don't find a better approach to the problem we will continue this cycle of Welfare, Foster Care, Prison.

Zuma's has developed a program that provides experiential therapies for the children, their families and the foster parents. This therapy incorporates the use of horses rescued from peril as therapy partners for the children and their families.

This therapy program has been working in a "pilot" phase since March of 2009 and has seen tremendous success in healing the closed, broken minds and hearts of these children. A recent quote from a therapist as Zuma's, "I get more  out of these kids in one hour than I get in months of traditional therapy". The program just works. It needs to become available to all children in need, but in order for that to happen Zuma's needs funding.
The programs currently exist now only from the sponsorship of Founders, Jodi and Paul Messenich.

Jodi and Paul have been rescuing horses from terrible circumstances since 2004 and have recently added the Equine Assisted Psychotherapy piece to their mission. Zuma's Rescue Ranch is a registered 501C3 non-profit charity dedicated to changing the lives of children and horses in need.

This Event July 24th 200 4:00-9:00 pm is a fun way to get to know about our programs, meet our board members and support the children and horses of Zuma's.
In addition to the book signing with Michael Blake we  are having a silent auction with some wonderful items, Richter-Scale will be providing our sound/lighting and serendipity catering will be preparing a wonderful menu for you.
