Capturing vehicles driving through a restricted area

A section of Willy-Brandt-
Allee in Wiesbaden, Germany is closed off to private vehicles. To improve the efficiency of the public transport system and to calm traffic in this suburb only buses and taxis are permitted to use this ‘special lane’. Police authorities soon realized that, for their own convenience, other road users were cutting through this section. By using an innovative solution, based on the well known PoliScanspeed system, violators can now be captured. In fact, in the first week alone, almost 1000 drivers were caught illegally accessing the road; in addition almost 60 of which were also breaking the speed limit. As a result the system is to amortize in less than three months.
The system is designed to detect and capture images of all vehicles entering the restricted area. The images are then transferred immediately to the back office where they can be filtered and, if necessary, penalties issued. The system utilizes the same laser based technology (LIDAR) as PoliScanspeed. As a result VITRONIC has created the world’s first ‘special lane’ enforcement system without the need for in-road equipments such as loops and/or sensors. By removing physical obstructions such as bollards and barriers traffic flow is improved and public safety increased. The system can be installed in sensitive areas such as school zones and airports, even multi-lane roads.
