Swansea Open 2009 - Annual Exhibition

PR Log (Press Release) – Jul 06, 2009 – The Swansea Open is an annual art competition open to anyone who lives and works in the City & County of Swansea.

Works selected from the submissions received will be exhibited in Room 1. The selection is made by a different invited selector each year, thus encouraging diverse viewpoints annually.

The exhibition seeks to reflect critical and cultural awareness, with a broad range of work by professional and non-professional artists. Artwork may be submitted by anyone who lives or works in the City & County of Swansea, within the postcodes SA1 to SA9.

The invited selector this year is Amanda Farr. Amanda is Director of Oriel Davies Gallery, Newtown, Powys, which presents innovative exhibitions by artists from Wales and beyond.

She has been at Oriel Davies since 1998 and has seen the Gallery through a major refurbishment programme. Before moving to Wales she worked as an art curator in East Yorkshire and Edinburgh.

Three prize-winners will be chosen from the selected entries, with a first prize of £250, second prize of £150 and a third prize of £100. The prize-winners will be announced at the beginning of the exhibition.
