NEW ORLEANS—As part of the effort to aid New Orleans’ hungry Wheaton World Wide Moving “Swiped for Hunger” at the 2009 SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition. As an exhibitor at the conference June 26 to 28, Wheaton donated $1 for every attendee identification card swiped, or business card collected, to Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana. A check for $5,000 was presented to Second Harvest on June 28, 2009.
The donation was made to Second Harvest in conjunction with Move for Hunger, an organization started by a Wheaton agent that collects unwanted non-perishable food during the moving process and delivers it to local food banks.
“As New Orleans continues to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, many of its people are still suffering,” said Dave Witzerman, president of Wheaton World Wide Moving. “Swipe for Hunger in New Orleans, and Move for Hunger nationally, is one small way Wheaton can touch the lives of the people in the communities in which we serve.”
