EU tells Obama to give them control of Internet.

Using politically correct gestures the EU makes case to President for why the US should allow the them to pull the strings of ICANN and take "shared control" which would pose a change in the Internet you may not like.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 05, 2009 -
Despite the equal and global opportunities that the US invented Internet has to offer the entire planet, the EU believes now is the perfect time for a "change" with regards to the US controlled Internet and let them "share" in the governance of it's laws, rules and policies with ICANN. Currently ICANN's agreement terminates with the dept of Commerce in sept 2009 and the global sharks smell blood again after a similar failed attempt was made years ago. In my opinion if Obama allows this huge security risking, profit busting catastrophe to occur, you could see such "change" as global revenue sharing of your website business, taxing your time on the web to possibly loosing domain names or websites if deemed "unfair" or "inappropriate" by the international forum of governance known as the G-12. The USA is responsible for the internet's existence and ICANN is doing a super job with it.  Hands off I say. They can find revenue from the Internet now anyway, without this power. This is an international / bilateral platform now. They are not disadvantaged or disenfranchised. They are not shut out. So why this urgent need for dominance of the Internet? Is it because they think we are push overs and like to be walked on by any International group that comes down the pike? Or is it the money they could skim from our hard work and sweat?. They have and always have had the same global opportunity just like the rest of the world and the struggling Americans to make a living form the Web.

According to an article by Paul Meller of Computerworld.com dated May 4,2009 quoting Viviane Reding a key player  " the change of administration in Washington offered renewed hope in this direction". "I trust that President Obama will have the courage, the wisdom and the respect for the global nature of the Internet to pave the way in September for a new, more accountable, more transparent, more democratic and more multilateral form of Internet governance" The time to act is now, she added. "And Europe will be ready to support President Obama in his efforts" [Taken from computerworld.com]

Any logical person can see that these empty epitaphs are nothing more than outright demands for controlling our Internet covered by a thick layer of politically correct and misleading dressing.

Moreover  this over reaching power grab of our Internet control displays not only a king sized self served helping of arrogance, but would prove dangerous for the U.S and it's economy. It is time the USA just says no. If they don't like it, too bad. We are still one nation governed by our constitution, not the EU and we are going to put the brakes on appeasing folks who have one hand out while the other is in our pocket. We have enough challenges as a nation right now. They need to  worry about world hunger and finding cures for cancer instead of prying into our commerce and business affairs.
