Guest speaker York Regional Police Chief Armand La Barge spoke to the attendees about the importance of drug education and the work of the Drug-Free Marshals in the community, reinforcing the message of the United Nations campaign “YOUR LIFE. YOUR COMMUNITY. NO PLACE FOR DRUGS”.
Markham Town Council unanimously proclaimed June 26 as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in the Town of Markham and at the Taste of Asia Festival, Mayor Frank Scarpitti also presented the proclamation.
Lead Drug-Free Marshal Sophie Pateropoulos led the pledge to be drug-free, a key part of the Drug-Free Marshals campaign, a grass-roots youth drug education and prevention program sponsored by the Church of Scientology of Toronto. The Drug-Free Marshals program is open to all children who want to be drug-free and all those in attendance took the pledge. As Church Founder L. Ron Hubbard has said, “Save the child and you save the nation.”
