Thorpeness is a unique village, it was created in the early 1900s as a holiday resort for wealthy Edwardians by local land owner Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie. His vision still survives (almost) intact today. The 65 acre boating lake, known as The Meare, still attracts visitors young and not so young. The golf course still challenges even the most experienced player, and the Country Club still provides tennis and entertainments for the whole family.
Visitors can stray further afield and visit the nearby attractions of Aldeburgh (which include the best fish and chips for miles around!) Other towns nearby include Snape, known for its famous Concert Hall, Dunwich, Orford, Framlingham and Woodbridge.
For those wanting to stay put why not rent a self-catering cottage and just laze about on the beach or wander up to the windmill and look at the world famous House in The Clouds. Orginally built to house a water tank, The house resembles a cottage perched on a very long pole 60ft in the air!
