Professional Institute of Technology, In the Fountain View Business Park
The Professional Institute of Technology has been helping Las Vegas job seekers to be more marketable and empowered in their job search efforts. The training center, which offers training in all the Microsoft applications, as well as Quickbooks and Adobe, has helped over 200 people during the month of June.
The workshops provided basic skills in Operating systems, and MS Word and Excel, plus Resume and job search skills.
Director, Laurie Clemens has decided to continue this program, and offer the free workshops twice per month on Fridays. "While we cannot offer this as often as we like, we feel that by offering it twice per month, we can help our job seekers and supply them with basic skills and provide them with resources for additional funding for continued education."
An unexpected benefit to the students was the ability to network and socialize with others in their same situation. Laurie also noted, "I noticed that when the students came in, their shoulders were turned down, and many just had what I felt was the wieght of the world on their shoulders. By the end, many were laughing and hopeful and I knew they just felt better! Somtimes, just realizing you aren't alone in a situation can help you keep pushing on. I can truly say that I was humbled by their appreciation for what we were doing!"
As an added benefit to job seekers, the training center is going to start offering Job Clubs for unemployed.
Job Clubs allow people to get together and network about openings and share resources and information that will be helpful to them. The school will also be calling on local employment agencies and HR personnel to attend, and share information. Stay tuned for information regarding these, they should start around the third week in July.
