Lobbying 101, the introductory session, will be presented in Sacramento on July 23, 2009 and in Anaheim on August 25, 2009. Lobbying 101 covers the fundamentals of legislative advocacy including a review of all important relevant resource materials as well as: - Registration & disclosure requirements - Lobbying ethics - "How a bill becomes a law"/ basics of the legislative process - Legislative rules and exceptions - Legislative committees: Their role, how they function and how to work with them - Glossaries of key legislative terms & common references to types and categories of bills - How to read a bill - Dos and don'ts of testifying - Rules for effective advocacy - Attributes of a successful lobbyist - How to choose the right author for your sponsored bill - The lobbyist/client relationship and respective roles The seminars are valuable for new and experienced lobbyists, lobbyist employers, lobbyist support staff as well as concerned citizens who desire a better understanding of the legislative process. Since its founding in 2007, Capitol Seminars has hosted more than 600 enrollees in its introductory and advanced sessions. Founder Ray LeBov presents the entirety of the 101 session. Mr. LeBov is a veteran of 34 years working in and around the California Legislature, including 17 years as counsel to various Senate and Assembly Committees. He served for 13 years as the Director of the Office of Governmental Affairs of the California Judicial Council. In that capacity Mr. LeBov was the chief lobbyist for the state court system. After leaving state service, Mr. LeBov founded Ray LeBov and Associates, a leading California contract lobbying organization. The cost for each seminar is $250.
