Wakeboard Zone has just released a new section of their website that has all of the basics on Waterskate. This is part of a new community website that is all about Waterskate Information. Members and non-members can visit this Waterskate Tips page on the Wakeboard Zone website for free at: http://www.wakeboardzone.org.

Here is an excerpt from the new Waterskate information webpage:

"Needless to say, the absence of binding makes a huge difference to the sport. When skimming across the surface of the water on a wakeskate, you will not only have to worry about controlling and maneuvering the skate but also retaining your balance and staying on the wakeskate at all times. A wakeboard has a smooth finish. This does not pose any problems as the feet are bound to the surface. However, a smooth finish on a wakeskate will pose innumerable problems for the individual. The moment the smooth surfaced wakeskate becomes wet, it will become next to impossible to gain any grip or traction on the same. This will make it impossible to retain hold on the skate. However, wakeskaters not only retain control but also perform stunts using the wakeskate. How is this possible?

This is possible because the top surface is not smooth as it is in a wakeboard. The surface of the wakeskate is covered in tape or foam that enhances the grip of the individual standing on the skate. The rider is required to wear good quality shoes that will give even more grip on the skate. On the whole, the combination of a roughed up surface and quality shoes gives the individual more control on the wakeskate. Of course, handling a wakeskate is definitely going to be tougher than handling a wakeboard. However, this acts as a challenge for all those individuals who have become experts in wakeboarding."
