We are all aware of the current economic state of affairs: employers are faced cutting down their operations from employee benefits (healthcare cost accounts for the lion’s share of all benefit packages), increased premiums and negotiated service cost with insurance carriers. At the end of the day, employees have to accept whatever their employer provides along with higher co-payments, high deductibles, changes in primary physicians or hospitals. This falls short of protecting employees and their families.
And those who do pay for private insurance cannot continue to maintain paying up to $900 per month premiums every month throughout their lifespan.
On the other side of the equation, there are millions of Americans deemed to be UNinsured due to pre-existing conditions. Often, out of despair, most agree to become experimental cases in clinical trials.
45% of the uninsured say that it is too expensive to purchase health care coverage; 13% say they could no longer afford to pay for coverage; 37% say they had it from an employer, but no longer work there and 13% say their employer does not offer full coverage (2009 Survey of Health Care Consumers Key Findings, Strategic Implications, Deloitte Center for Health Solutions)
And So?
We must remind ourselves to have the belief in the freedom to choose in governing a healthy life, a choice of what is right to one's a sense of well being for the best possible outcome at an affordable price. As human nature, we will do whatever is necessary to maintain proper health standards. Who else would have our best interest at heart?
Dare to think of an alternative?
Medical Tourism is where people who live in one country, travel to another country to receive medical, dental and surgical care equal to or greater care than they would have in their own country. The criteria for this choice is based on affordability, better access to care or a higher level of quality of care.
As the only International non profit based in the United States of America, we believe that Medical Tourism Association can provide the proper format of information to allow all interested parties with unbiased information, allowing proper choices to restore one's sense of well being through education, transparency and communication.
