The Linden Centre Announces “Adventures in a Chinese Kitchen,” a Culinary Tour and Immersion in Yunnan Province, China
Experience the Cuisine of three Chinese Ethnic Minorities: November 2-14, 2009
Mentored by Janice Thomas, chef/owner of the Savory Spoon Cooking School in Ellison Bay, WI, and the Linden Centre’s own Chef Yang Dong Bing, the former head chef at the Kunming Hotel and teacher at Yunnan’s grand culinary school

Xizhou, China … Jeanee and Brian Linden, owners of the Linden Centre – hotel and cultural site -- in Yunnan Province, China, warmly invite guests to share in a thirteen-day Chinese epicurean adventure, departing the USA on November 2, arriving in China on November 3 and returning to the USA on November14, 2009.
Explains Jeanee, “‘Have you eaten yet?’ is one of the most common and respected Chinese greetings, and on our unique tour, participants will eat and enjoy a variety of cuisine from three of Yunnan’s ethnic minorities, as we guide them through several provincial cities.”
The diverse flavors of Yunnan food will enchant travelers. Spices are reminiscent of India and Sichuan. Fresh fish and vegetables are similar to Vietnam and Hong Kong, and soups and hot pots echo the historic connection between the region and the Mongolian steppes.
Guests will be welcomed into the restored Linden Centre, an expansive and luxurious courtyard home that is a restored Type “A” relic in the ancient village of Xizhou, 11 miles from the old city of Dali. The Lindens consider the Centre to be home base – a true Shangri- La from where travelers can enjoy an immersion into authentic China. Their more than two decades of experience in China ensure that guests will see and experience aspects of the country unknown to other visitors.
The program will be enhanced with the expertise of trip mentors Janice Thomas, owner of the Savory Spoon Cooking School, one of the most renowned facilities of its kind in the Midwest and the Linden Centre’s own chef, Yang Dong Bing, the former head chef of the Kunming Hotel and an instructor at Yunnan’s culinary school.
Jancie Thomas is known for her personal approach to cooking and creating memories with every meal. She has over 25 years of experience in the food industry and has taught cooking classes throughout the United States, and lead culinary tours in Italy, France and Mexico. She is a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals and Women Chefs of America. Mr. Yang has spent over 30 years as a chef and will be sharing many of his secret dishes with our guests.
