American Veterans Aid Fund (AVAF), a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, was established as part of the American Veterans Aid family of companies to assist veterans and their families in obtaining and maintaining the respect, dignity, and honor earned through their service and sacrifice. AVAF has a relationship with veterans, their families, and veteran organizations based upon mutual regard and shared visions for a better tomorrow as well as common interests and values.
What defines our character as veterans is the bond formed through our military service and that bond follows us into civilian life. It is because of this special connection that we are sensitive to the reality that other veterans may not be as fortunate as ourselves and therefore may need assistance beyond what government funds and programs are available or can provide.
At AVAF, we recognize that this is an unprecedented time in the history of veterans in the United States. A rapidly aging veteran population from World War II and Korea presents unique challenges today, especially in terms of medical and housing (assisted living) needs.
Combat does not end when one leaves the battlefield. From Vietnam to the Iraq, Agent Orange to Depleted Uranium Munitions, our veterans and their families are facing some of the greatest battles of their lives and support is needed now more than ever before.
Our mission is a broad one and includes:
Providing assistance with medical expenses, including but not limited to,
purchasing medical equipment directly for veteran use and/or funding
unpaid medical expenses;
Supplying Retro-Fits and devices for existing homes to assist disabled veterans
so that he or she can continue to dwell in his or her home and in some cases providing temporary and/or permanent quality affordable housing for veterans;
Providing funding and advocacy to support families of deceased veterans,
including but not limited to, paying utilities, temporary mortgage assistance,
burial assistance, as well as legal and educational advocacy;
Providing support for training and other employment search related activities
and services, including but not limited to, employment counseling and
educating the general public in the employment capabilities of veterans;
Providing college, university, and vocational school scholarships for veterans or, in the case where the service member is killed in combat, making eligible the spouse and/or children of the veteran for those scholarships.
Supporting fundraising activities of American Veterans Aid Fund and other non-governmental veteran assistance organizations.
