Prison Consultant Vincent & Steven Oberfest Predicts Madoff Will Be Safer in Prison Than Stanford

Bernie Madoff will live out the rest of his life in what many believe will be a medium security federal prison in the northeast region of the country.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Jul 02, 2009 – New York City, NY  Bernie Madoff will live out the rest of his life in what many believe will be a medium security federal prison in the northeast region of the country. Allen Stanford could possibly be heading to one in the south central region and, at 59 years of age, it could also be for the rest of his life. Who will have a harder time in prison?

While all medium security prisons house violent and dangerous inmates, prisons in some regions of the country are believed to be more dangerous than others. Many experts say that the prisons closer to the Mexican border are the most dangerous places to serve time at. “This belief is because the prisons along the border of Mexico house hundreds if not thousands of Mexican gang members who, even though they are locked up, are still active,” said Steve Vincent, a former police officer and federal inmate turned prison consultant who runs Federal Prison Consultant Services in Louisville, KY. “Allen Stanford is going to have a much harder time in prison than Bernie Madoff,” he said.

Vincent believes that Madoff will be safer in prison than Stanford will be. “Madoff will probably be housed in protective custody just because he carries the label of being called the worst ever. Having that heavyweight title could make him a target for some inmate who wants to become famous by taking out the champ. But Stanford won’t get that protective custody designation because, although he’s high profile, he will be looked upon as being just another thief who didn’t steal as much as Madoff,” he said. Vincent thinks that Stanford will be placed in with the general population and believes that he will ultimately have to associate himself with a white gang for protection. “In prisons along the border you either go to a gang for protection or you could end up being beaten or getting married, and Sir Allen Stanford won’t be the one wearing the tux," he said. Vincent also said that going to a gang for protection comes with a price tag. "They are going to expect something in return for their services, either money or favors,” he said.

Steven Oberfest, also a prison consultant and director of The Prison Coach, a New York City based prison consulting firm, said Stanford is portraying the wrong attitude when he’s in front of the cameras. “I don’t know if he’s hired a prison consultant yet but he desperately needs help. He looks, walks, and acts like a billionaire for the TV cameras, and that’s going to bring him nothing but trouble in prison,” he said. Oberfest believes Stanford has already been noticed by inmates. “He’s on their radar now, inmates watch TV, they see him on the news, I guarantee you that they have already labeled him as being soft and are hoping that he gets placed in their prison,” he said.

Vincent said Stanford better start thinking about what happens after the trial. "He needs to stop with all the thumbs up nonsense and start thinking about prison, or he is going to wind up wearing makeup while washing somone's underwear," he said.
