The Scientology group of Mali, known as the Maliane Association, marked its second anniversary last week with a gala celebration of the theme “Opening the Doors to Knowledge.”
Two hundred guests joined the 30 members of the Maliane Association in an event that featured speeches, music, and a presentation on the life of philosopher, humanitarian, and Scientology Founder, L. Ron Hubbard.
Begun in 2007 by French Scientologist, Catherine Remise, the association has the mission of bringing practical tools, developed by Mr. Hubbard, to the French-speaking people of the region. By doing so, they aim to provide not only personal betterment but also a resolution to some of the most undesirable social situations in western Africa.
Poverty is a fact of life in Mali, where the average worker’s salary is $1,200 a year. In fact, Mali is one of the poorest countries in the world. And with a literacy rate of just over 46% despite mandated universal education, an effective approach to study is essential if the country’s youth are to gain the skills they need to survive. For this reason, the Maliane Association has been providing training in study technology, a secular application of the works of L. Ron Hubbard, to individuals, groups, and schools at all levels, in Bamako, the capital and largest city of Mali.
