The purpose of the wakeboarding vest is very simple. It acts as a personal flotation device and ensures that you will not sink even when you do swim. There may be individuals on the boat who may be in a position to help you when something goes wrong. You may not be very far from the coast. You may be a very good swimmer and may be very good at wakeboarding stunts. However, none of these reasons can be used as an excuse to avoid wearing wakeboarding vest
Injuries and accidents do not take place with advance warning. If you get injured while performing a wakeboarding stunt or even when not doing anything fancy, wearing a wakeboarding vest can make all the difference between life and death. The time taken for the motorboat to slow down and reverse and reach you may be too long and you may sink and drown before help arrives. However, if you wear a wakeboarding vest, there is no question of sinking or drowning because you shall remain floating on the surface at all times."
