Get your radio career on track at Point Blank this summer
London, UK 30/06/2009
Award-winning music school Point Blank launches a new Advanced Radio Production Course this summer. The course enrols every three months and there are last minute places still available for the course starting Monday 6th July. Classes take place on two evenings per week making it perfect for those who have work commitments but are looking for a career change or to break into radio.
One recent student who did just that was Gemma Cairney. Gemma took a radio course at Point Blank in 2007 and within a few months was presenting for the newly commissioned Channel 4 Radio. She went on to land the breakfast show slot on BBC 1Xtra alongside Trevor Nelson and most recently graced our TV screens presenting the BBC’s live coverage of Glastonbury Festival.
The course is aimed at students who already have some experience (perhaps on student or hospital radio, pirate staions or via Point Blank’s introductory Radio Production Course).Teaching takes place in a small group and offers a practical guide to producing, presenting, programming and managing a radio station. Students work on individual projects and also collaborate on content ideas in weekly station meetings. Each student will complete a showreel CD and participate in a live broadcast in the final week of the course.
In addition to classes, students have access to the studio facilities at Point Blank seven days a week as part of their course. The college has its own in-house internet radio station and students are encouraged to gain valuable broadcast experience to reinforce the skills they are learning. Many students utilise this studio time to put together showreels or record guest interviews. Recent vistors to the studios have included members of acclaimed bands including Mystery Jets and Filthy Dukes.
The course itself is taught by experienced broadcaster Fari Bradley who hosts a critically acclaimed show on Resonance FM (Critics Choice in The Independent)
