The Scottish Minority Ethnic Achievement Awards 2009

The third annual Scottish Minority Ethnic Achievement Awards 2009 were an outstanding success attracting over 650 people through the doors at last nights ceremony at the Hilton Hotel.

The third annual Scottish Minority Ethnic Achievement Awards 2009 were an outstanding success attracting over 650 people through the doors at last nights ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, including iconic figures representing an array of disciplines from business and politics to sports and showbiz.

The Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, keynote speaker, commented "These awards are a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge the achievements made by Scotland's ethnic minorities in business, sports, the arts and in our communities. The nominees demonstrate the huge pool of talent we have in Scotland and the valuable contribution people in ethnic minorities make to Scottish society. Each nominee should be proud of their achievements and I wish everyone the best of luck for the awards."

Anela Anwar, Chief Executive of Team 11, said, “The contributions made by Minority Ethnic Communities are invaluable to the economic, social and cultural development of Scotland. The annual Scottish Minority Ethnic Achievement Awards are designed to recognise and celebrate these significant contributions.
