Sound & Fury at the Dylan Thomas Centre

The Dylan Thomas Centre presents a feast of poetry and music on Thursday, 2 July at 7.30pm, with performances by Samantha Wynne Rhydderch, Damian Walford Davies, Tiffany Atkinson and Dylan Fowler.

PR Log (Press Release)Jun 30, 2009 – The Dylan Thomas Centre presents a feast of poetry and music on Thursday, 2 July at 7.30pm, with performances by Samantha Wynne Rhydderch, Damian Walford Davies, Tiffany Atkinson and Dylan Fowler.

Samantha Wynne Rhydderch was born in Aberystwyth and grew up in west Wales. She gained an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Wales, Cardiff and was a winner in the Redbeck Press Pamphlet Competition in 1996. The same year Samantha received an Arts Council of Wales award to write her first collection Rockclimbing in Silk (Seren). In 2005 she was awarded a Hawthornden Fellowship to write her second collection Not in These Shoes (Picador), which was shortlisted for this year’s Wales Book of the Year. She is currently Poetry Fellow at the University of Wales, Lampeter.

Damian Walford Davies teaches in the Department of English and Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University. A co-authored collection of poetry, Whiteout, was published by Parthian in 2006, and Suit of Lights appeared from Seren in 2009. Tiffany Atkinson was the BBC Young Poet of the Year in 1993 and 1994 and won the 2001 Cardiff International Poetry Competition.  Her latest collection is Kink and Particle (Seren). She lectures at University of Wales Aberystwyth.

There will also be music from Dylan Fowler – Dylan is an acclaimed guitarist and composer, who has collaborated with both Richard and Danny Thompson, as well as musicians from Turkey, Finland and eastern Europe. As the BBC have noted, he offers “music with heart and soul …a determination to ignore recognised boundaries”.
