Notes to editors:
The Bristol Festival Community Group was set up in 2007 to launch a new community focused festival for the South West, celebrating the region's talent from music and theatre to circus and art.
The volunteer led BFCG were granted full charity status in 2008 (Registered Charity no. 1124722) and key to the group's aims are public consultation, participation and involvement, making the Bristol Festival the only city wide publically directed event. As well as organising the festival, the group runs a volunteer training programme including mentoring, skills swaps and work experience enabling members of the community to gain valuable experience in the events and music industry. The group also set up the Bristol Festival Artist Development Centre; an artists’ studio housing several local artists in Bedminster year round, whilst also offering a programme of free public workshops throughout the summer in areas such as costume making, basic carpentry skills and décor production.
The Bristol Festival 2008, held on September 20th and 21st across various venues including the Harbourside's Amphitheatre, was a resounding success with a brilliant weekend enjoyed by roughly fourteen thousand of people from throughout the region. Over 2,000 performers and 300 volunteers contributed to the event, which merged an outdoor music festival, a multi-venue club night and an exciting visual and interactive arts programme.
Many thanks,
The Bristol Festival Community Group
