FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jun 29, 2009 – ICS Heat Pump Technology, one of the UK’s leading providers of air source, ground source and geothermal heat pumps has just been “Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Certified”, allowing the company to provide information and training on heat pump technology to Architects which will go towards the annual CPD requirements as laid down by RIBA. The RIBA's CPD program helps keep its members and other construction professionals up-to-date with training support, new ideas and updates.

ICS will be providing in-depth technical information to help Architects and Specifiers to fully understand the science behind the heat pump technology and to enable them to calculate cost and carbon savings in various application situations. Although heat pump technology has been around for a long time and its technology has been widely adopted throughout Europe, ICS believes that its take-up within the UK is still behind other similar countries.  One reason could be the lack of technical information and the knowledge transfer to professionals responsible for specifying the technology and getting it installed in leading commercial and residential applications. In order to dispel the many myths surrounding heat pumps in their various forms,  ICS has designed the following eight point CPD seminar that will cover all the key points relating to heat pumps and their installation and to form a clear structure for delivering information:-

1.   Cost implications and cost savings against other fuel sources
2.   Carbon emission reductions against other energy sources
3.   The refrigeration cycle and how it can be used to provide simultaneous heating and cooling solutions
4.   Ground source heat pumps and their operation
5.   Air source heat pumps and their operation
6.   residential applications
7.   Commercial applications.

The Royal Institute of British Architects is the UK body for architecture and the architectural profession. RIBA provide support for 40,500 members worldwide in the form of training, technical services, publications and events, and set standards for the education of architects, both in the UK and overseas. RIBA also works with the government and government agencies to improve the design quality of public buildings and new homes.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) obligations exist to help ensure that qualified professionals maintain their competence to practice, and covers many professional business sectors in the UK.  At its very basic level, CPD is for consumer protection. It is also a way of ensuring that architects keep up-to-date within a rapidly changing profession. CPD should also enhance an architect's current and future development (professionally, personally and for staff within a business.). All practicing chartered members of the RIBA are obliged to do a total of 35 hours of CPD every year split between 19.5 hours from RIBA’s prescribed core curriculum and 15.5 hours per year of professional development in other subjects relevant to the Architects individual CPD needs.

Garry Broadbent, ICS managing director said “The key to getting the UK to adopt heat pump technology is to ensure that those responsible for specifying heating or cooling solutions for buildings fully understand the technology and the science behind the economic and environmental claims and can decide for themselves whether heat pumps are right for a particular project. I think if we can deliver all the information in a neutral and informative way then we will see the volume of heat pumps specified in the UK rocket”
