Houston, TX - Karma, a Houston-based collective of creative minds - visual artists, musicians, deejays, photographers, and culturalists - will be transforming Eleanor Tinsley Park into the Karma Garden, an electronic music park party and arts festival at Eleanor Tinsley Park on Saturday, June 27 from noon to 8pm. The festival will continue at the eclectic bar Boheme with an evening party from 9 until 2.
The event is a collaboration of creative groups, with the support of the Texas Heat Arts and Music Festival, Ash Semien of MusicHeals.org, and Houston Green Scene. The music line-up includes deejays from ten of Houston's top DJ collectives in an environment shaped by the works of a diverse range of emerging and mid-career local artists.
Music in the Karma Garden will be selected from a range of electronic styles by Steve Mok and Scott Arnebold (Texas Heat), DJ Red and Josh Dupont (77002), James Reed and Brandon Silva (Tastylick, Rat Pack), Bobby Bliss and Esteban Torres (Praia Urbana, East End Boys), DJ Melodic (Soular Grooves), Candice Elliot (PartyFone), LBO (Uni.form, H.U.H.M.), Squincy Jones, John the Third, and Upgraedd (Gritsy), Brotha Jibril (RENT), and Kung Fu Pimp and Smooth Operator (Karma)
The park will be a playground of public art display, including the "Bundle Fever" installation of Federico Cavazos and Jay Townsend; live sculpting by Robert Derr and live body painting by Vonetta Berry of ABC Body Art; two-thousand origami flowers; and performance art by Elyse Freeman. The shade trees will hold a hanging garden of artistic works on paper, featuring the photography, printmaking, and graphic design of Robert Bjorn Taylor, Trinidad Muñoz, Jenn Rosier, Dessa, Evan Twyford, Lindsay Ramos, Julie Worsham, and others. Houston Green Scene will be promoting environmental awareness with daisies to plant and an art car to decorate.
Both the park festival and the evening party are free and Pride-friendly. The park festival is all ages, both family and pet friendly, and picnics are encouraged. The evening event, however, is 21+.
Karma Houston is organized by John Tran, founder and resident DJ Kung Fu Pimp; Jeremy Keas, designer and resident DJ Smooth Operator; and Cat Coombes, art curator.
