Chicken Enterprise at Academy at Sisters
PRLog (Press Release) -
Jun 26, 2009 -
For the past several months, The Academy at Sister’s girls have been working on a new business venture which was unveiled on Wednesday, June 23, 2009. The girls, as part of a class project, did all the research and work to write a business plan to raise chickens and sell the organically raised eggs. They utilized math skills to pencil out the economics, literacy skills to write the business plan, public relations to present it to their teachers for approval, and then they built the chicken coop along with raising money for a year of feed for the chickens.
“This is the kind of real life entrepreneurial experience that makes the Academy at Sisters Academics Department

states Stephanie Alvstad, Executive Director of the Academy at Sisters. “The girls are not only learning what it takes to run a small business, but they have also had to research sanitation and health department protocols. In addition, the girls will use their biology and chemistry skills to analyze the feeds, and see how their chickens are faring given their breed.”
The girls have four different breeds of chickens, and will start selling the eggs in about 6-8 weeks.
Niki Redenius, Academic Instructor, with oversight of the project notes, “The chickens get more love each day than I think a chicken is supposed to! They are very socialized chickens. The girls have done a great job with them so far, and they have grown like crazy in the past nine weeks.”
