The totally innovative pump-action caps dispense precise volumes of sun lotion so the user can make sure they are using at least 35 mls of sun protection per application as recommended by experts.
“This development means Linco is again leading the field,” said Seena Seka, the company’s head of product development who came up with the ground-breaking idea after reports on the increasing rates of skin cancer in the UK.
“We have always recommended that people regularly apply generous amounts of sun protection product when exposed to the sun and we even came up with the ‘egg-cup’ full analogy to help users,” said Mr Seka, speaking from his Carrington, Manchester office.
“An egg cup full of sun cream equates to approximately 35 mls, which is generally accepted as the correct amount to apply to the whole body. Then I thought, why can’t we create a product bottle that dispenses measured amounts of the product so the user can make sure they are applying the right amount of sun cream.?
“I went into the factory and started experimenting with various designs and we came up with a new dispenser which delivers measured amounts of sun protection with each pump of the cap. Sunbathers can now accurately apply the correct amount of sun protection by following the instructions on the label.
“The Press and Protect Chart on the back of each bottle tells the user how many times to press the cap to dispense the correct amount of sun protection for each part of the body. For instance; 3 presses for each arm and 4 presses for the torso, from below the neck to above the hips.
“Our research, here at Calypso, tells us that the vast majority of people use far too little sun cream to protect themselves adequately,”
“And no matter how good your sun cream, it can’t work to protect you if you’ve not put enough on. So ensure it is applied liberally and remember to re-apply every couple of hours.
“It is also not going to offer the same protection after a dip in the sea, so you should re-apply even if your product is an all-day protection type. Being generous with your sun protection makes sense.
“Not only does it ensure your skin does not burn, it will help moisturise and combat skin damage.
Calypso sun lotion is priced at the more competitive end of the market with a rrp from £4.49 and has UVB and ****UVA protection and is available from Matalan, Lloyds pharmacies, Wilkinsons, Bodycare, Home & Bargain stores, Quality Save and the Co-operative Pharmacy.
