“Flame Resistant Rain Suit”. Is this a contradiction in terms?

Years ago the most common form of rain suit might have been a garbage bag with holes cut in it for your head and arms. Today there are literally hundreds of types, styles, colors, and materials to choose from.

June 26, 2009 - PRLog -- Cartersville, Atlanta, Georgia -  Rain, it’s necessary for sustaining life on this planet.  Not enough, and all living things will eventually die; too much and the same thing could happen.  Most of us don’t mind a little rain.  In fact most of us can say we’ve taken a walk in the rain, played in the rain, watched a ball game in the rain, and even occasionally worked in the rain.  But not too many things make us more uncomfortable than having to work while we’re soaking wet.  Rain suits help us eliminate that problem, but what is the right rain suit for the particular job we’re doing?  Several things need to be taken into consideration before purchasing the right rain suit.  Do we need something light and flexible just to keep the rain off of us?  Do we need something more substantial to withstand being out in the rain all day long?  Do we need something that is chemical resistant?  Do we need something that is reflective for night work?  Do we need something that is flame resistant?  Or do we need a combination of everything listed above?  A thin poncho that’s almost transparent is only about .02 mm thick; great for the ball game, and you can pick one up for under 2 bucks.  If you’re on a road crew though you might want to consider a class 3 high visibility suit with reflective stripes, but these can run upwards of 80 dollars.  If you work near flammable materials you definitely want to consider checking out a flame resistant rain suit, somewhere in the 20 to 40 dollar range.  Rain suits have come a long way.  From flame resistant to chemical resistant.  From a thin poncho to a .45 mm thick heavy-duty suit.  From two dollars to nearly one hundred, there is a suit out there to fit your needs.  The folks at H & R Fire and Safety can assist you in finding exactly what you’re looking for.  “Flame resistant rain suit”, a contradiction in terms?  Not any more!
For more information on rain suits and weather protection or Personal Protective Equipment in general; find a certified safety equipment dealer near you by checking your local yellow pages, or if you live in Georgia, GAFSED (Georgia Association of Fire Safety Equipment Dealers) is the place to look.  Of course you can always contact your friends at H & R Fire and Safety at 770-382-7650 or on the web at  http://www.hrfiresafety.com for all of your safety or fire equipment needs.  Rainwear has definitely evolved over the years.  You can still grab a garbage bag and cut some holes in it, but will that really meet your needs?  Remember to check out H & R for rain suits, and above all, be safe!
