June 25, 2009 - PRLog -- “The world has lost one of its favourite crutches in the passing away of pop star and friend Michael Jackson,” said Glenn Rogers, Managing Editor of Hong Kong-based Mediazone Publishing Group, to the World Press, today.

“Having lost every shred of dignity after your ‘coverage’ of America’s invasion of Iraq, the American press needn’t hide its joy at the prospect of profit that would flow in from exhaustive reporting of Michael Jackson’s death. “Come on! Hurry up. The feeding frenzy has begun,” he taunted reporters in America today, via video.

“It will be out of character for the world press and particularly the American press to leave even a dead man in peace. They smeared his reputation when he was alive and they will smear his name long after today because the world needs a crutch on which to support itself and Michael was a target unlike any other. He was a target for the press, because he was a target for the people.”

“What irritated the world most about Michael’s success was its sheer helplessness at not being able to drag him down from heights most of us can only dream of reaching.”

“His being black stung like salt on an open wound. The audacity of a black man on a global pedestal was most annoying, the world seemed to concede after each soul stirring, foot stomping performance from the immensely newsworthy Michael Jackson.

“Across the last two decades the world flung one baseless allegation after another in the singer’s direction never once pausing to ponder the impact on him as person. His looks, sexual orientation, skin colour, plastic surgery, parental skills, personal relations and even his debt was fair fodder for the newspapers and when they ran out, they turned him into a predator of some sort.”
“Yes, he may not have made the best of choices but so long as those choices did not hurt or harm anyone else, he reserves the right to make those choices. We denied him that right.”

“There wasn’t a single celebrity party in Beverly Hills where Michael was not criticized. Though many knew the stories were merely fabrication, they went along with it because it was the ‘popular’ opinion.”

“It is in this court of public opinion that Michael Jackson was publicly judged and sentenced everyday for more than 20 years. He stood there in the dock, chained and helpless as the crowd lead by the World Press threw poison-dipped darts at a successful black man whose only fault being his mission to bring happiness to us all.”

“Michael’s loss is no loss for the media because the circus will continue profiting from his fame like it does from the Elvis name. Perhaps, it is no loss for Michael too because at last he is free from being attacked by the very people he loved. It is a loss though for those who understood the man and his feelings. It is a loss for the few for whom Michael Jackson was a friend,” he said.
