General Michel Naim Aoun
Michel Naim Aoun, Christian Lebanese military leader, aligned with Hezbollah, served as interim prime minister of Lebanon for two years before being driven out of power by Syrian forces in October 1990. Aoun, a former army commander was forced into exile in 1991, and has been fighting to gain power in Lebanon since.
Aoun was defeated in his bid for Presidency in the Lebanese election on June 11, 2009. Hezbollah and Amal candidates swept Shi'ite areas in the election. The opposition alliance lost overall because Aoun failed to do the same in mainly Christian districts. Although still the predominant force in Lebanon, Hezbollah and Aoun plan to wait and see what the new government has to offer before taking any military or resistant actions.
Osama Hamdan is the top Hamas representative to Lebanon and is a member of the organization's politburo. He is a member of the Arab National Congress and of the Arab Islamic Conference of the Board of Trustees of the Jerusalem Institute in Lebanon.
Hamdan participated in the Cairo dialogue between Palestinian factions in 2004 and served as Hamas’ spokesperson at the talks. Hamdan was one of six senior Hamas leaders named by US President Bush in 2003 as “Specially Designated Global Terrorists”, and is currently the leading voice of resistance and advocated violence directed toward the Israeli nation.
In January, 2009, Hamdan vowed that Hamas will continue to bring in arms to the Gaza Strip despite an Israeli blockade of the coastal territory. His organization welcomed an inter-Palestinian dialogue but linked reconciliation with Fatah to the Palestinian Authority ending peace talks with Israel and backing Hamas' armed resistance against the Jewish state.
Ibrahim Mousawi is the head Hezbollah Media Relations Officer. Mousawi is editor of the weekly Hezbollah newspaper al-Intiqad in Beirut and a Lebanese journalist. He has been quoted as a Hezbollah spokesman since at least 1998.
Mousawi is known as Hezbollah’s propagandist and is head of Political Programming at the Hezbollah TV station Al Manar (the beacon). Al Manar practices partisan journalism and does not include Israeli officials in its broadcasts. According to Mousawi this is because "It [Israel] is an enemy state. Why would you put spokesmen for an enemy state on the air?" He hosted a political talk show and worked as editor-in-chief of foreign news at Al Manar. In an article for the Daily Star in 2002, Mousawi explained the religious basis for suicide attacks in a fatwa of Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah. The New Yorker magazine has quoted Mousawi as stating that "Jews are a lesion on the forehead of history." When Al-Manar was banned from French satellite TV for airing a 29-part Ramadan special 'Al-Shatat' (Diaspora) during October-November 2003, which featured the Blood Libel against Jews and quoted extensively from the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, Mousawi said the ban resulted from “political pressure by the Jewish lobby.”
Ibrahim Mousawi is currently banned from The United States, The United Kingdom, and Ireland.
